    Baby II crossover

Hello Advent people, I am waiting on a delivery of two Baby Advent II's, but doing a little research on them I found conflicting info about the XO's. Please refer to the pictures one has one inductor and one has two inductors, so which is it ?? the only diagram I found online was a hand drawn schematic which shows one .5mH inductor. Lonny

    CB-10 crossovers

RTally you are the best. I was not sure about the tweeter being out of phase or a typo on the sheet, but I get it. as for the 7.5 ohm resistor I see it now, I can look at the diagram and see the flow . As I stated in another post they did not teach speaker impedance and crossovers in my diesel mechanics classes. Thanks Lonny

Weird that no one saw this post, any info about the diagram above and my questions would help me in understanding a little more about these speakers. Thanks Lonny

    CB-10 crossovers

Hello good people: I am having a little trouble understanding the diagram of the crossover, if someone could please explain to me why the Terminal 2 GND. goes to the NEG. on the woofer and the POS. on the tweeter, also what does the 7.5 ohm resistor do??? and what do switch terminals No. 5 and 7 connect to ?? I should have payed more attention when I had these apart. Thanks in advance for helping ... singed, Confused in Canada.

    CB-10 crossovers

Hello Kent: I had to change the yellow cap from a 5uf to a 5.1uf , still inside the +- 5% . I spent a few hours burning a few songs into my head so I could compare the sound before and after but I really can't hear any difference, but now I know they are new, It has been a fun project and way easier and cheaper than restoring a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 convertible.I am still looking for a decent amp to power these. CB-10 crossovers

Hello good people: Just finished replacing the capacitor and resistors on my CB-10s as part of my refurbishing project. some pictures before and after. Not a complex XO but the first i've done. The original XO had three different looking resistors (not values) and the new ones I ordered from Solen's sent me three different also one Bennic (made in Taiwan) ,one made in Taiwan (no name) and one unbranded??? Part one can be seen here...and below the before and after of my xo's Lonny

    Cabinet refinnishing

Hello Norman, They sound great now but I have nothing to compare them to, I had the woofers out to see if they were recapped or had the speakers swapped out at one time but all is original and clean. I know caps wear out over time so I will change them out in the near future. Hey JKent do you still make KLH badges??? I like to re badge the amps driving the speakers , AR badges on amps driving AR's KLH badges on amps driving KLH's ETC. Lonny

    Cabinet refinnishing

Hello all; An update on how my refinishing went, for a guy that in neither an artist nor woodworker I think they turned out pretty good. All the repairs feel smooth, but the color matching and graining I might have to leave the pros. They have five coats of tung oil (light sanding between coats 1,2,3 ) not glossy enough on top for me so tomorrow another super light sanding and a wax polish to finish. A few pics of the busted corner, the veneer patch and the tops. I am waiting for the service manual before I tackle the guts. Enjoy... Lonny

    Cabinet refinnishing

Hey kent: After searching CPS and Youtube I have a pretty good idea of what to do. The big chip I did just that, cut a piece or oak to fit, glued and sanded it ,fit is perfect color is off a bit but I'll match it in finishing. As for the scratches they sanded out easily , started at 120-220-400 grit A couple of small chips I filled with 2 part wood epoxy same as the chip the color is a little off but should be able to color match before finishing. I decided to use tung oil because my local wood supply store did not have a Danish oil in an oak or neutral. Thanks for taking the time... Lonny

    Cabinet refinnishing

Thanks Kent, I will search the AR forum and try to get better pics of the damage to post. took some pics of the damage, the chip on the top is small 1/2" x 1/4" the scratches look bad in the pics but not to bad in person, the bottom corner is the one I am concerned about. Lonny

    Cabinet refinnishing

Hello good people: Is there a page on here about refinishing or repairing speaker cabs?? I just received a set of KLH Research X CB-10's and one has a smashed corner and the other one has a little veneer chip missing. They look to be particle board covered with oak veneer .Other than this minor damage they are in great shape and sound good too. Sorry I don't have a picture of the damage. Lonny
  16. I think I figured out the redbox designation , they were actually shipped in a red box. CYNR
  17. Hey guys (girls?) thanks for helping but the tweeters are wrong on the AR8b i've included pics of two different AR102s to compare . The dimensions are wrong on the AR8s my dimensions are 12.25 X 7.5 X 6.25 . I have only found this triangular tweeter on this model (AR102) CYNR
  18. Hello Genek: I was gifted these from my neighbours brothers mother in law who bought them new in the '90s and never hooked them up but took them out of the box to use the box to ship something east. She is 80 years young but can't recall any info about the speakers. I am having a hard time finding any info about the RedBox improved designation or the UK connection but any and all info is greatly appreciated. Just noticed the Portland Or. local, passed through many times traveling from central B.C. to San francisco, I was born 6 miles from the pacific ocean and can't get it out of my blood. Thanks CYNR
  19. Just checked the TSW line and not the same, the only ones I can find that have the similar triangular tweeters are the AR102s from 1990-1991. What is the significance of the RedBox designation and how important is it that my pair have consecutive serial numbers? I have only seen one other pair with consecutive numbers and the owner stated they were a matched pair... Cynr
  20. Hello Aadams, Thanks for taking the time, I have included pictures now. I have looked at the AR18,AR8b but the closest I can find is the AR102, I am curious about the UK angle and the improved designation (improved over what?) CYNR
  21. Hello Good People: I just recieved a pair of NOS Acoustic Research Red Box Improved (mint condition) SN# GW002325 and GW002326 , I can not find anything online about these speakers and am very curious to find out more. They have the "designed and engineered in Great Britain" decals with the union jack flag on them. 6.5 inch woofer and 1 inch liquid cooled tweeters, I hooked them up to a Peavey IPS 150 amp and they sound great,I will attach pics soon as I am without my camera at the moment. So come on experts tell me what I have here. CYNR 96.3 fm Good Music For Bad People
