  1. Hello good people, I just found a pair of Sony coaxial 8" 8ohm 40watt "1-544-529-11" but cannot find any info online about these , can someone decipher the code on the capacitor for me. it reads 9.k(m) see pics. Thanks .. Lonny

  3. That speaker has close to the same specs as the phenolics I used , I copied the 23 crossover as close as I could . I (we) had a hard time finding the inductor number but I think everyone involved agreed on .4mH I used a .39mH inductor as well as 3.9ohm 6.2ohm and 8.2ohm (for the 4,6,8ohm) in mine. Those tweeters are cheap enough to experiment with until you find a decent pair of KLH's. Lonny
  4. Hello Quotard, I used a phenolic tweeter (Marsland brand) in my model 23 clones and am very happy with the results, The 23 has a high level attenuator switch to help level the output. I am still looking for model 23 tweeters but am not willing to pay $75 to $100 per . Lonny two links to relevant threads
  5. Thanks for playing, but I could not resist opening them up and this is what I found is a current limiter or speaker protector as you will see I destroyed them in my nondestructive exploration so my new question is where to get two?? The blue dot means 12.4 watts (red dot 26.9 watts) Lonny
  6. OP Amps

Quoted from the RetroVoltage web page... One interesting thing to note is this Active Equalizer came with IC sockets fitted from the factory, which were still populated with the original National LF 353 op-amp chips. These chips are a big, known problem in Series IV Active Equalizers. So much so that in January 1983, BoseĀ® issued a product service bulletin describing their unusually high tendency to exhibit high noise or fail completely due to lead contamination in the manufacturing process. The factory recommended using the TL072, or RC4558 or RC4559 op-amp instead, and that all op-amp chips be changed if a unit came in for service.
  8. I did something similar to my Marsland 15" woofers see post #1 for a before shot and post # 16 for an after shot, on this forum. Read the whole post for ideas. Paint is heavy but dye is not.. https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/new-project-15-3-way.973853/ Lonny

  10. No sir, You are welcome. To get first hand information and not hearsay or second hand news is gold for me. I hope you can enlighten us with more insider information about the goings on at the factory in the UK. I am still wondering about the "improved" designation on my speakers.. Lonny
  11. Thank you simonsounds for the information that has been haunting me since I received these speakers, I am presently listening to Simply Red on my Red Box Improved speakers and they still sound great (the speakers as well as the band), As I said in an earlier post I got these as a NOS pair in 2019 , If you are reading this Simonsounds what was the date of manufacture? pre 1990 but how pre? and to the improved designation improved over the 18's?? Thanks again for chiming in 1.5 years later I can now sleep easy ... Lonny
  12. Hello VSAT88, Kent and ligs helped me with my first speaker box build and ligs recommended 1Lb per CF of volume , so your speaker is 25x14x11.5 = 4025 ci = 2.32 cf So 2.3 lbs per box APROX. the product JKent linked to is 2in thick and weighs .4 lbs I bought this, at 3.5 inches and 7.6 lbs . Had enough to fill both boxes.. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/owens-corning-r-12-ecotouch-pink-pak-plus-pink-fiberglas-insulation-15-inch-x-32-feet-x-3-5-inch-40-sq-ft-/1000789365 Lonny
  13. I did this while waiting for my coffee/chocolate grill cloth, they got a few likes on AK but it was never going to be permanent. Lonny
  14. Hi TiGuy I never had a model 23 tweeter to compare , as I built these by collecting assorted parts from the internet, but I did do a lot of research and think the phenolic ring tweeter is as close as I could get . The model 23 has an attenuator switch to help with balancing the sound output. I am very happy with the sound of these tweeters but am still looking for the correct ones . For the price of the phenolics why not try them until you find the correct ones. Lonny
  15. Hello TiGuy22, these are the phenolic tweeters I used, see post #22 , I am still searching for my model 23 tweeters . https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/klh-model-23-dimensions.939140/page-2 as for the 17's" affect - a quote from dxho on my other thread. Posted December 12, 2020 "If you weren't aware, Model Five and Twelve tweeters are equivalent. Model Six, Seventeen, Twenty, Thirty, and Thirty Three will fit, but they have different voicing. I haven't compared the two variations side-by-side, so I don't know how much difference there is." Lonny
  16. Hello TiGuy22, I was in a simular situation but with the help of the good people here I was able to complete my "23's" but am still looking for period correct tweeters. If you read these threads it will point you in the right direction. Lonny

Hello Bassplayer: It looks like a32 mf and a 5 mf cap + a 3ohm resistor , one pic showed a 4+1 mf cap parallel and another pic showed a 5 mf single cap. There are also two inductors one iron core one air core . Crossover = 2800 hz. Hope this helps Lonny
  21. Those are the happiest speakers I have ever seen. Lonny
