  1. Here are the pictures... The 13uf cap is not easy to find so I used Dayton Audio 6.2uf and 6.8uf 250V 1% Caps in parallel. I opted to glue the surrounds on the front edge of the driver instead of the inside edge (factory). I also replaced the screw nuts connectors with 5-way binding posts Comments welcome... These are really nice sounding speakers These were an estate find... Ignore the right hand cabinet (an EPI M100W The "Test Mule" for cabinet finishing solutions) I was stoked to see the grills were in this condition. Right hand Advent logo will straighten by realigning the grill cloth stretch Surrounds were toast, as expected Love the Serial Number label on the foam Original NLA crossover with no switching (13uf Cap) This is just a test fitting of the foam surrounds prior to cleaned old glue off frame edge and repainting frame edge. This glue takes a bit of work to get off the frame... Can't stand to see glue globs on reform jobs I opted to glue the surrounds on the front edge of the driver instead of the inside edge (factory). The 13uf cap is not easy to find so I used Dayton Audio 6.2uf and 6.8uf 250V 1% Caps in parallel. All done and breaking in I also replaced the screw nuts connectors with 5-way binding posts (Ya I know...)

  3. I am interested in the lineage of the LARGE ADVENTS Here is what I know... and it needs additional detail added " There are four basic model updates in the evolution of the Large Advent speaker: - Original Large Advent (LA) - designed and introduced in 1969, and was simply named "The Advent Loudspeaker" when it was their only model. (The Layered "Fried Egg Tweeter") - New Large Advent (NLA) - This was a major update to the original design. (The NEAT "Fried Egg Tweeter") - Advent 5002 - The tweeter was updated to a black poly dome type, first by Advent then by Advent/Jensen. Note that the 5012 is a real wood version of the 5002. - Advent 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Speaker - essentially a reissue of the 5002/12. Where does the The "Fried Egg" "Advent/1" and the "Advent 1" fit in?
  4. Looking for suggestions on a FABRIC textured grill cloth. Here are some pictures from my restoration project. These were original owner speakers I purchased in 1974 and dragged all over the world during my 25-year military career. Rebuild crossovers, New "Human Speakers" Driver (thanks Huw Powell), and internal bracing added I have ad a few samples I have tried and am not happy with the results. The most promising ended up being a plastic product.
  5. Has anyone done a pair of EPI M180s?? Looking for ideas
  6. Adding a brace between the back wall and the Baffle board (between the tweeter hole and Driver hole really improves the sound. After cutting and fitting the brace to fit behind the Driver MDF mounting ring... rap on the Baffle board with the tweeter in place and the Driver hole out to find the sweet spot where the echo sounds the most dull (tight?). Then glue it in place for 24 hours ( you can also add Hot Glue to help stabilize the brace if you feel it necessary.)

    Epi M50

I own a pair of original EPI-150's that I purchased new in the mid-70s. I have dragged these EPIs around the world during my 25-year USAF career and still love them. I am now going through a phase of collecting Klipsch bookshelf and smaller floor models to play with. Most of these I resell after enjoying them for a bit. After searching around off and on for two years, I finally scored a mint pair of EPI M50's that came with a pair of 10'-high stands. I set them up on my ESS Tower speakers and played a few selections of my vintage rock and smooth jazz CDs. I confess my eyes "watered" a bit as I sat and listened to these joyous little "Mites". It is impossible to describe the "BIG" sound these little beauties produce. I was actually hearing music off the walls beside me. My wife that just tolerates my music obsessions actually sat down to listen for a while, she looked at me and said "OK... these you can keep"... "I really like them!" I have only had these one week and I can't wait until everyone has sailed out of the house so I can fire them up for another day of the sweetest sounds. Now I have a problem... A guy 30 minutes from me has another pair of mint M50s for sale. ...and yes I have spoken for them. His wife is having shoulder surgery so I pick them up Friday. My wife is going to kill me! (Running a 46-year old Nikko rack system (230-watt Alpha, Beta 50, EQ-20, Gamma 30) with a Denon SACD/DVD Player for spinning SACD/CDs, an old Thorens Turntable, and a 50-year old TEAC reel-to-reel)
