  1. The gold jumper plates that came with them work fine. They are bowed so when the mid/ tweeter binding posts are tightened they apply pressure on the woofer side. It's a good connection. No issues with the woofer even at loud volumes.
  2. Just left it. It doesn't effect the playability. Will only effect it if someone wants to bi amp.
  3. Thanks for pointing that out. I lowered the price and revised the ad to reflect the correct Info.
  4. Yes....I really want them to go a good home, to someone who appreciates them for what they are and will get years of enjoyment out of them. If I had room and a dedicated 2 channel listening room I would keep them. Hopefully a real collector and purist will see them and want to add them to his/her collection. I hook them up to my Kenwood KA-701 80 wpc and listen to them on the weekends in my garage they sound really good.
  5. Found this on a Japanese web site seems to have the same labels and tested by sticker. The same ew code before the serial number are they rare 1 set of 200 made for the Japanese market in the UK?.....https://www.hifido.co.jp/sold/18-15694-12914-00.html.
  6. Not sure we came to a conclusion. He stated that AR was doing some weird stuff near the end companies demise. Limited, Asian and replicas as for a few other versions. The tweeter was what he was most Interested in. He examined them under a magnifying glass to see it's material and how the dome was attached. I will let him go into the details as he is a book of knowledge on this subject matter.
  7. I had the renowned Roy C refoam my AR3a woofers this weekend. They turned out amazing. He is definitely an artist when it comes to speaker rebuilding. Spend the money and have him do your speaker work. You will have a piece of mind knowing they are in good hands with Roy C.
  8. I think I could refoam them without issue but I think Roy C has done thousands and probably is just a wee bit better at it than me...lol.
  9. I am going to order some of those tonight and have them here when RoyC shows up next weekend to help me refoam the woofers. He is the expert and I would rather wait on him to proceed. I would hate to mess the crossovers up getting them apart. I want to keep them as pristine as possible.
  10. So are mine the 1991 AR3a Replicas or the Limited?
  11. RoyC ..not sure how to pm you from this page.
  12. Cleaned....it pretty much crumbed off of the cone. The basket wasn't so easy...the green stuff was the factory glue...not a piece of Masonite.
  13. It has foam on all 4 corners to probably support the pcb. As there is a small space between it and the masonite.
  14. That sounds like a feasible plan of attack. Was waiting for feedback from you experts before I attempt anything. Last thing I want to do is destroy these speakers. Thanks for your input.
  15. I cancelled my simply speaker order. One question...on the foam outer ring there is a raised piece of some sort. The new foam does not come with this material. Just scrape the foam off of it and leave it attached to the basket frame and glue the new foam down to it?
  16. It's a Marantz NR 1608 rated for 4-8 ohm speakers. It's around 75 watts per channel @ 4ohms. 50 watts per channel @8 ohms. NR1608's power amp section features discrete high-current output devices for superb sound with both music and movies, with, identical power on all 7 channels for precision sound. Rated at 50 watts per channel (8 ohm, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0.08% THD), the NR1608 features low-impedance drive capability, for excellent speaker control, and is compatible with 4 ohm speakers too. Meanwhile the Eco mode provides energy savings: it features an on-screen Eco meter, while it’s also possible to use the receiver in power-saving mode, either reducing the maximum output power or adopting low-power strategies at more modest settings – and all without any effect on the superb sound quality.
  17. They are the oak veneer cabinets.
  18. I will not part them out as they are rare and there probably aren't that many of these in the great condition these are. I would like to refoam them and give them a good listening to on my Marantz Amplifier. Is there anyone you guys trust to refoam them close to me? I don't want to ruin them by trying to refoam them myself. I am close to Jacksonville Florida.
  19. Aadams ...I am not sure what to do with them. I am going to repair the foam surrounds first and then take a listen to them. What do you think they are worth as is?
  20. I am in St. Augustine Florida.
  21. Anyone on the crossover removal so I can change the 2 broken binding posts. I took the 2 nuts off of the inside part of the speaker binding post and tried to push it through with no luck.
  22. I just ordered the refoam kit from simply speakers to refoam the woofers. Every thing works...the potentiometers don't have any static in them. Cabinets are a 9.8 out of 10. As soon as I refoam them I will hook them up and see what they sound like. Did a quick sound test at super low volume to make sure everything was working. "The Find": I went to a thrift store sale and these where under a table with $30.00 on them. I have listened to AR speakers and even owned a pair of book shelfs a few years back so I knew they were a decent speaker. It wasn't until I did a Google search that I was floored by how saught after the 3a speakers are. Are these the ones produced that they only made 200 pair of? Am I right to assume they were made in the early 90's?
