    AR11 VS AR3a

Yep. I had AR91s—-excellent speakers. I prefer my 11Bs. Maybe it’s just me, but I find them extraordinary!

    AR11 VS AR3a

I truly love my AR11Bs. They are to me a modern AR3a. I feel they are the finest refinement of the AR three way (10pi too). They need the mid and high caps replaced. The bass cap it typically fine. Make sure the proper foam is used on the woofer. I had a pair of AR3a that I liked very much, but felt they were too mellow up top. Loved the bass and mids. For me the 11/11B fleshed out the top end and kept all I loved about the 3a. Bass is a little different—3a seems deeper but looser. 11/11B is still deep and tighter Solo acoustic bass is stupid good on my 11Bs. Both great—I prefer the 11/10 series overall.
  3. Yes, interestingly enough this has a B at end of serial # and the B one piece crossover. Also has the B switches...seems like a transition pair. They also have the black dome tweeters and silver mids.
  4. I have been using restored AR11Bs for a few month now and have some observations about them. A) They are one of the finest sounding speakers I have ever used with good source material They need quality watts pushing them---using a Sony ES system with N80ES amp giving them plenty of power. C) They will not bloat or artificially produce bass. If it's there, its there. D) I have them on 10" metal stands and they like to be 6-8" from rear wall E) that midrange is amazing---but can be slightly aggressive with poor material F) Using a sine wave generator I get clean bass to 26 hz in my room---that's pretty remarkable ( I do have a sub crossed over at 40hz as my room is a bit large) The woofers were done by Bill at Millersound. I did the crossovers with Erse NPE bundles and a small Poly on each. Left the big silver bass caps as they tested fine. New driver seals and have the original foam grills in good shape. I bought mine with the boxes and all paperwork from the original owner -- Truly a spectacular speaker!
  5. Great restoration...I just finished my AR11Bs. I decided to use NPE caps bundled with smaller value polys. Left the big bass cap for now. Give these some clean power from an amp with good headroom and man, they are terrific! I finished mine with a few coats of Danish oil over a week. Had to lightly sand tops, but overall mine were really clean. Good original grills too. Enjoy them!
