  1. I have finished my build and crossovers they are sounding unbelievable far better than I could have imagined. I haven’t posted for 18 months wanted to complete my project I had some very good advice from this forum. obviously I have gone for a modern take on the mst. i used monacor drive units and tweeters my father has an original pair of mst’s so I was able to reference them but improved the bass response with the Monacor drive units,(a great option if anyone can’t find an original mst pair of drivers) mat’s are renowned for their difficult positioning traits, in my room they sound fantastic with their backs up against the wall they really sparkle. i am driving them with a Rotel amp from 1973 ra1210 dual mono output dual transformer(power house!) very power hungry speakers. My replica’s have much more depth with the same beautiful midrange, the tweeters mimic the smooth delivery of the Roy Alison tweeters I was considering using them but wanted to create a modern version to see if modern tweeters could replicate the sound there were some tribulations with the crossover. i will happily have people over to hear them I live in chertsey surrey. regards to everyone Rob
  2. I posted about 18 months ago with a modern re design of the MST1 utilising the same cabinet dimensions, configuration And functionality principal, I have finished the build and have them working with a basic crossover design,I opted for Monacor drive units suitable for acoustic suspension and have monacor tweeters too,as I’m sure you all know the Roy Alison tweeters we’re crossed over at around 1600hz and the side tweeters 5000hz,as pointed out by several of the people on this forum, obviously using different drive units means a specific crossover design to the cabinet and drive units. although I have them soundIng pretty good with a dsp processor,This tells me with the correct electronics installed they should be excellent. my plan is to have some crossover’s designed professionally to suit. if anyone can recommend company providing this service It would be greatly appreciated I live in surrey kind regards to all Rob
  3. You make very good sense to me,I have completely sealed the boxes with gadgets on everything so maybe as you said speak to Wembley and see if there’s a remedy I’m sure they’re familiar with the ar4x if not the mst so I think that’ll be my first port of call as I would love to use the original drive units for obvious reasons thanks for your advice Kent
  4. RST I like that ! i was coming to the same conclusion, the crossover point in the original mst1 was specific to the Roy Allison tweeters and woofer,I’m going to choose some drivers and try and design a crossover on crossover software (should be interesting/frustrating!) 🙃but even with a revised crossover the design is the speakers personality with it’s unique sound dispersion. one question when designing the crossover would the mst1 configuration be considered a 3way design? one good thing about designing the crossover is the guesswork and trial and error are somewhat lessened, but that said if anyone out there has any suggestions on a crossover design that may work I’m all ears Rob😎
  5. Hi everyone I’m a bit confused I need to source some tweeters for my replica mst1’s 3 tweeter configuration are the tweeters 4 ohm or 8 ohm? can anyone help with the frequency range and sensitivity Needed i’m looking to use new tweeters can anyone suggest a good tweeter as I’m new to this, any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, rob
  6. As everyone can see my replica mst project is going well,I have opted for the mst1 configuration,at the moment I’m tweaking and playing around to get the sound right/nice,the speakers are in black primer at the moment but will be sprayed jet black gloss when finished,So I’m going for a more modern exterior but the internal of the speakers are the correct dimensions, and the plan is to use small full range speakers in the place if the tweeters until I can gradually replace them with the original Roy Allison tweeters as and when they come up on the market??I have been recommended by a speaker restoration company that the Monacor sph210 woofer is a good substitute for the original woofers, the woofers shown are the original mst woofers from my fathers mst’s that we’re blown by his amplifier, but as I said in a previous post they were re coned and never had any bass afterwards and unfortunately I’m not sure the exact re cone kit to buy, and I’ve seen they are as expensive as a new diver. Any suggestions criticisms are welcomed
  7. Roy c I thought as much I remember the woofers were very soft and loose originally,so yes I think the spiders and surrounds are wrong if I’m unable to find AR 4x woofers is there a modern woofer that could be applicable?
  8. Hi everyone I’ve put a couple of posts on already today but I’m not very good with computers so I’m gonna re write my question now I’m a member I have some original mst woofers that re coned , but afterwards they sounded screechy and lack bass could it be the wrong voice coils were fitted? And if so could that be rectified I live in England ,is anyone aware of the correct cones /spiders /surrounds ? any help very appreciated !
  9. Thanks Genek one more question if I may I have the original mst woofers re coned by Wembley loud speakers but they never sounded right afterwards, they were re coned because the amp fried the voice coils,is there anywhere I could get the correct voice coils fitted or maybe an alternative woofer that would work better ? the sound now is very midrange oriented and the bass is virtually gone and the speakers had great solid bass before.
  10. Hi everyone I hope someone can help I’m building replica acoustic research mst’s can anyone tell me the impedance of the tweeters Used ? Any help would be very appreciated
