Thanks Genek, Do you have a link besides "Vintage AR" for those repros.? Ink or paint on brass is what I am looking for. I was going to try my hand at making some(AR-2ax).

Are the speakers AR 3 or AR 3a. On this site is a really good download of how to restore the AR 3a but it also can help you on the AR 3. On the opening page on the left you will see a heading " Restoring the AR3a". Please post pictures of the speakers.

Great job! Did you use or will you use Roy's goop on the woofers surrounds?

louisville.craigslist.com for $40-he doesn't think they can be restored. Maybe someone should contact him and explain what he has?

Also yours might cleanup with Oxi and detergent-try that first-remember not to soak the grill material backing too much-check again the AR 3a restoration guide.

The recommended linen may not be available but there are others-www.123stitch.com-search for 18 count linen-off white. Some are pricey some are more reasonable.

They also could be corroded-very normal on these. Are these new to you and have you downloaded the AR3a restoration guide. It should explain a lot of what is going on with the speakers.

Well I noticed on testing some L-Pads that they exhibit something I thought was a little strange. When testing the resistance-all ranges etc. at either end of the rotation the readout went to infinity(open). I checked this on several L-Pads and used several different meters, on a pot that doesn't happen (original AR speaker pots). I opened several L-Pads(Dayton Audio-15W 3/8 Shaft 8 Ohm) and saw what was happening. At the stop at either end was a hold down clip. If the physical stop piece(plastic) was wider that would prevent this condition. Any thoughts on this issue?

I agree if it was mine I would try to rebuild it the same and then test it apples to apples. Great work on this super tweeter.

Really good job! We all have our own opinions-The only thing I wonder about is the ATV on the leads-but if it works-it works.

Good Morning,
Well the tweeters might be repairable, RoyC and Chris1 may chime in on that. Did you remove the tweeters from their circuit and test them, that would be my suggestion. The black and red caps should be replaced because of value drifting. As for the badges paint(dull black) is usually works well. Of course good luck and keep us posted.
