  1. Nice Coda Reel Man. Glad to hear the mids and tweets came back to life. I’ll echo, those cabs look beautiful. Enjoy, it’s fun to be able to compare the 3’s to the 3a’s.
  2. Giorgio, That’s really exciting. How do they sound? Does the Pioneer work?
  3. “Bottom line: NLA’s are not a good candidate for Advent stacking.” I’ve been running a double stack of NLAs for years. A person needs to understand their amplifier. It needs to be capable of a 4 ohm load. As reported, stacked Advents can dip to 2 ohms. If the amp is capable of an 4 ohm load, and after deciding to run them, feel the amplifier for heat. If it’s too hot then turn down the volume or don’t run a stack. There’s a great write-up/analysis by Pete B on stacked advents, ( I couldn’t find it) but I believe there is a suggestion to run them with the rear switch set on decrease to lessen the 2 ohm impact. I’d appreciate if someone can link that.
  4. Very cool, I can visualize the party with the Advents! I love how they play loud. I think you would be creating more work for yourself if you bust the crossover plate out. Reapplying the plate may not allow a good acoustic suspension seal. You'd have to work from within the woofer hole anyway. I see two options, remove the crossover components and update the components. If you do this, you could mount everything on another board that would attach inside, leaving wires to the switch long enough to allow mounting the switch in its hole. The second option is to work through the woofer hole. maybe one of the kids would be interested in helping to restore these. I'm more restore oriented, leaning toward using original fried egg tweeters. How about some pictures of the workhorses? mark
  5. Thought I’d use this post to alert folks that there are two pairs of AR-3 mids on eBay ending around March 10, 2020.
  6. Hi Chris, My AR-3's are 45,637 and 40. The cabinet is signed/ dated "Denny Roll Dec. 1964". With an additional stamp of 4900. The tweeters are Feb 18 196?, the mids are replacements and the woofers did not have a date I could see, so I'm calling them 1965, assuming a cabinet made in 12/64 would have been used in 1965.
  7. I'll just add that you should not try to remove the grills. Try to photograph the drivers through the grill cloth if you can. The frames are fragile after all these years, and often break when removing them. Look at pictures on the web you'll see broken frames good luck
  8. Here's another option, suggested by someone at AK, they have these in different shapes and thread sizes. You'd have to be able to screw them in, from inside the cabinet...hmm https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=MS21059 mark
