  1. Thanks Roy. I pick them up tomorrow along with another pair of speakers provided all is good with them.
  2. OK, thanks fedeleluigi What drivers were used prior to Tonegen? Did AR manufacture their own?
  3. So let me get this straight. If the ID plate isn't brass it's a replica? As in the attached pictures.
  4. He lived in Framingham right around the corner from me.
  5. Thanks for the write-up Tom. It looks like Victor was a BIG thinker and an outside of the box thought.
  6. Must be those solen caps in bypass Bill uses My ref gear has that problem > bad recordings are BAD. The tube buffer can help on some but not all.
  7. I'd go for the Legacy Focus SE if my AR's ever give up the ghost. http://legacyaudio.com/products/view/focus-se/
  8. Mellotone is sold by Parts Express. Very nice material. perhaps this is the "better grill material" you were referring to.
  9. Yes. It was in my case, I used Dayton 1% on the 4, 8 and 24uf caps and 5% on the 40 and 100uf caps. The 1% is a different cap than the 5%; not just a tolerance difference. I found the 91s would get 'under my skin' and become un-listenable quickly. I did one speaker and put a 0.01uf Dayton film and foil across the 4uf and a 0.01uF Vishay 1837 across the 25uf (24). I did an AB of the 2 speakers. I wasn't sure what was different at first as the bypassed speaker seemed to be not as loud. I finally got down of the floor and and put my ear to the tweeters and mid of each speaker. It became quite clear then. The NON bypassed speaker had brightness and glare. The bypassed speaker was clearer and more detailed. I can now listen to them all day without getting listener fatigue. I'll be putting bypass caps across all the caps in my AR90 project.
  10. They look more like replacements for the 9 Series speakers and not the 3.
  11. I have AR90's and decided to try the Mundorf ECaps and used a Vishay 1837 as a bypass cap on the tweeter and UMR. I'll try and get some pictures posted of the assembled caps.
  12. The AR94's I restored for my brother inlaw have that tweeter. I was over at his house and he was playing an Eric Burdon CD with an old Pioneer receiver. They sound quite nice.
  13. I think Chris1This1 on this site can repair them or has had luck repairing them
  14. I always like to recall this quote from Ken Kantor (from AK website) <<< for some reason it won't copy and paste>>> LATER
  15. AR Surround had tried the Solens in the UMR series cap for AR9 and 90. They are now being used in a parallel cap position where frequencies are shunted to ground. There are some people who think all amps sound the same, not just caps.
  16. Good job getting that goop off of the terminal posts. You sure made good use of the evil solen caps. Looks good and will last a long time. Happy listening.
  17. Both 2 ohm resistors appear to be connected to the 100uF cap. So the other end/lead of the resistor needs to go to the negative terminal.
  18. That goop on the backside of the binding posts looks like liquid nails. Ugghhhh. Butcher......... They disconnected your woofer zobel. It also looks like some early style of mylar caps (the ones that say Mexico).
  19. Here's a crossover pic from my 91's. It might help as a wiring reference.
  20. I think some technical info should be included on the more important break thru speakers. But yeah, the people involved. Pictures speak volumes. Good luck. Looking forward the the released product. I ran into a member on the Emotiva website who made voice coils at one of the plants. He lives in NH I believe.
  21. Kent, the metal cans in mine were also Callins. I think Sprauge was out of the picture shortly after the 9 series speakers began. I think its hit or miss with the old Callins.
  22. One of my 24uF metal can caps measured over 40uF. Attached are the cap readings for my 91's AR91 cap values.pdf
  23. 5 caps (4, 8, 24, 40 and 100). The 40uF is hidden under a resistor at the bottom of this picture. Attached is a picture of the xover I did for my 91's
