  1. If the baffle is 3/4" mdf, how can the woofers be recessed 3/4 inch? Flush mounting the woofer (and tweeter for that matter) couldn't hurt, but I would be very surprised if the change would be audible. A coil on the woofer would probably be the most cost effective upgrade, and would definitely be audible.

  2. I agree with Roy. These days, there seems to be almost a religion about automatically replacing capacitors in the belief they are automatically bad after x number of years...

I agree wholeheartedly. Recap fever is epidemic. Like the tech at McIntosh told me when I asked if they recap older units that come in for repair, "We don't replace parts that aren't broken." I refoamed a pair of Smaller Advents this morning and the caps tested and sound perfect after 40 years.

  3. Powering the ADS L1590s and L1290s:

...the ADS speaker efficiency is relatively low and their power-handling capability is high, so I have been using QSC professional amplifiers of late to drive them...

...an yes, the ADS speakers are inefficient...

My L1530s, the predecessor to the L1590 and very similar except for the cabinet design, are rated at 95dB 1 watt/1 meter, which I think is insanely efficient. I was used to 89 dB or so before I acquired these monsters. I power them with a Nak PA7II and have never seen the overload lights even flicker for an instant.
