RoyRoy, I'm always skeptical of articles like those that don't include details of the test. IMO, the quality of the speakers system can have an impact on the outcome of such tests. IOW, were they listening to the cable/coat hanger comparisons thru a set of white van speakers or high-end audiophile speakers?

IOW, were they listening to the cable/coat hanger comparisons thru a set of white van speakers or high-end audiophile speakers?True, just posted for fun.... BUT I am personally more skeptical of sonic claims made by proponents of overkill (and overpriced) wire and cable. For the typical system discussed in this forum anything more than basic 18 or 16ga speaker wire is overkill, imo. This $6 100ft spool of 18ga "AR" wire is a great deal (and less expensive than coat hangers):http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=109-063Roy

RoyC
Considering the snake oil salesman in the Audio business, I suspect we could come up with quite the line of exotic coat hanger speaker wire products.Absolutely...The most basic electronic concepts are a mystery to most people. Keeping it that way will be very lucrative for retailers of our new line of teflon coated, silver (gold for the premium version) impregnated, extra thick, double insulated, super shielded, electron re-oriented, non-inductive, professional, audio coat hanger sales. A special oil coated version is under development for use with speakers containing equally ridiculous capacitors. Roy

RoyAnd lets not forget the exotic 90, 45 and 30 degree angle pieces required to make corners and bends due to the rigidity of the wire AND the interconnect pieces required to connect the fixed length sections together. Being ridgid will prevent any flexation distortion caused from bends in the wire imparting a negative quantum spin on the electrons from them colliding with the insulation/wire boundary thereby reducing the time smear caused by electrons being delayed in the wire in comparison to those that traveled a true linear part thru the wire.God, I'm scaring myself with this BS. RoyC
God, I'm scaring myself with this BS. Me too...But the neurosis that drives otherwise intelligent people to believe this type of marketing BS is even more scary. Roy

Pete B
John Dunlavy (1929-2007) of Dunlavy Audio Labs wasa top notch engineer and loudspeaker designer:http://www.stereophile.com/interviews/163A link to one of his posts on the old Bass list concerning wire:http://www.verber.com/mark/ce/cables.htmlFrom that link:"I sincerely believe the time has come for concerned audiophiles, true engineers, competent physicists, academics, mag editors, etc. to take a firm stand regarding much of this disturbing new trend in the blatantly false claims frequently found in cable advertising. If we fail to do so, reputable designers, engineers, manufacturers, magazine editors and product reviewers may find their reputation tarnished beyond repair among those of the audiophile community we are supposed to serve."It is certainly worth reading every word in that post.
